Belong to Something Bigger
The Run a Better Business program is built on collaborative engagement around non-competitive activities. We focus on leveraging business best practices and management structures needed to run a better business. The program engages leadership and operations teams as it explores attitudes, core competencies, and operational efficiencies. Based on the Business Competency Framework, the program implements a structured approach to assess, analyze, and implement change needed for growth. Run a Better Business activities are designed for start-up and early-stage commercialization situations - typical of new companies focused heavily on product development.

Our Approach to Business Development
A business is about making money (you're a hobbyist if this is not your goal). To be successful, a business needs to be scalable as it develops its competencies and teams to manage operations. We start the journey by defining three roles (perspectives) needed by all businesses. These roles are initially held by the founders and are subsequently delegated to various directors and team-leads as the business grows. The RABB program builds on the development and balance of these roles as the business grows,

The EntrepreneurResponsible for the business opportunity, market position, and value management. The entrepreneur understands the market segments, what they want, and what they will pay for. These requirements are used to build the product. The business strategy starts in the head of the entrepreneur - it has to be shared. The Entrepreneur is responsible for leadership and making strategic decisions. |
The Product ManagerResponsible for developing products and services that fit the requirements set by the Entrepreneur. This can be complex and time consuming for many organizations. Building as sustainable product that can be sold (at good margins) is no easy feat. Products are more than a set of technical features - the Product Manager is responsible for demonstrating benefits that customers will pay for. |
Operations ManagerResponsible for managing ongoing operations on a month-to-month basis. The Operations manager balances marketing/sales with operational capacity and responses to imbalance by redirecting resources and introducing changes that increase revenue or margin while retaining quality. The Operations Manager is responsible for scaling business operations to meet changing demand. |
Our Sponsors
RABB is a collaborative itself. The program depends on the strength of our core partners and funding sponsors. The program operates as a not-for-profit with programs funded using cost-recovery fees. Our strategy is to provide leadership to a collaborative that create value through shareable resources, better decisions, and faster growth through leveraging existing knowledge.
